The Executive resume - Moving Beyond Accomplishments

There is a major difference between conventional resumes and executive resumes. Accomplishments are usually the center point of a conventional resume (i.e., indicating how much money was saved, how sales increased, what processes were proposed, planned, initiated, implemented, or streamlined). The executive resume, on the other hand, has more than one focus. It alludes to the executive’s ability to drive profits (accomplishments) and the capacity to lead (that is, to blend various “soft” skil …

The Dreaded One-Page resume Rule

“A resume should be only one page.”

Nope. Wrong. Dead wrong.

Having said that, the one-page rule IS a good rule of thumb for most resumes. But once you’ve been working for a couple years or more, one page simply isn’t enough to market yourself effectively. That’s what your resume is supposed to be about.

Whilst this article was being written, the Government announced that the pay of nurses will be based on productivity. The Trade Unions have announced that they have made a claim to the independent pay review body for a payment of 10% as a pay award, but the RCN indicated that up to 50,000 nursing jobs have been lost between 1992 and 1993. This gives an indication that the future is not so bright for nurses. Under this cloud of uncertainty nurses may deduce that there is a clear message that their job is no longer a job for life. Market forces, contracts, targets and flexibility are the jargon of today’s care. Nursing is under threat and attack.

Shortage of nurses in Canada

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

The shortage of nurses in Calgary recently caused an operating theatre to be closed because of a lack of staff. However the University of Calgary has received a record 700 applications for their undergraduate nursing program and students are lining up to enroll and qualify for a nursing career.

However, the problems start when qualified nurses spurn the chance of a nursing job in Canada for a move to United States, Australia or even Saudi Arabia.

The Calgary Health Region says it’s aggressively looking for new nurses and creating more education programs to train the recruits.

How To Get An Exciting Career In International Travel Nursing

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Sandy Sizemore explains some of the great benefits, and some of the negatives that you need to look out for when you consider a travel nursing job.

If the excitement of international travel appeals to you, then you might want to think of being an international travel nurse. Of course, finding a placement agency is going to be the first key to doing that, and in a detailed search, only agencies placing nurses from overseas into the United States came into play. However, if the program works the same way, the placement agency or employer will make all arrangements for your travel and the obtaining of your visa and green card to allow you perform your assignment internationally. You will also need a work permit, which will be obtained for you as well.

International travel nursing can provide a worldwide wealth of knowledge, especially if you are interested in working in some of the poorer countries instead of those with a wealth of riches to offer. The challenges of working in a country that speaks a different language, has a different culture, and has different medical needs can be crucial to the expansion of your nursing knowledge. The development of worldwide knowledge that you are able to take home with you can make the experience one that will allow you to greater utilize the skills that you have learned.

Becoming an international travel nurse can also provide you with a scope of knowledge in the travel field, allowing you to travel while at the same time, performing the job that you love. Perhaps you have something to offer the country where you are placed, and can bring back some of their knowledge as well. The combination of the two knowledge bases can ultimately be beneficial to patients on both sides of the global community. The sharing of knowledge in the medical field is the key to the entire world knowing how to treat the diseases that plague our people, and the utilization of international travel nurses, both into other countries, and from other countries into the United States, will make that happen. Each has knowledge to share, and a skill that is unique, so the working together of the two cultures can only improve what each country is already practicing.

International travel nursing can be a rewarding experience for both the nurse and the people she is sent to serve both culturally and medically. The placement agency knows how important this is and will strive to make certain that each nurse is placed where the needs can best be met within the scope of her desires. If nursing in another country appeals to you, be sure to contact one of the companies that places nurses internationally and be on your way to an unforgettable cultural experience while expanding the scope of your medical knowledge.
