Career Advice
I often get asked questions about careers in IT (Information Technology).
After all, I’ve been a Vice President of Consulting (twice for two different
companies), Vice President of Development, Senior Technical specialist many
times and now I am a Director Of Technical Services. I’ve been working with
computers for 23 years as of 2001 and plan on continuing my education and
career in a positive direction until the day that I die.

So what would I recommend to anyone seeking …

Can You Afford to Write Your Own resume ?

Why would someone pay a professional resume writer to write their resume when they have a computer, can use resume templates, and can find resume samples online and in books to get ideas on setting up and composing their own resume?

The answer lies in what type of position they are targeting and their level of resume writing skills. Whether basic or complex, a resume must be attractive, focused, and interesting to read. Failing to achieve these objectives …

A preceptorship program in an Israeli bone marrow transplantation unit.

Cancer Nurs. 1998 Aug; 21(4): 259-62
Cohen C, Musgrave CF

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) departments are unique in character. This is due largely to the following factors: the diseases treated, long-term hospitalization, strong family involvement in the care of patients, and the use of experimental treatment. Because of these factors, clinical experiences in a BMT unit may be a threatening experience for both nursing students and nurses. The BMT unit at Hadassah Hospital has, therefore, developed and implemented a preceptorship program for nursing students and nurses involved in advanced courses. The program includes three aspects: (a) a comprehensive medical knowledge base, (b) instruction in special nursing skills aimed at meeting both the physical and psychologic needs of BMT patients and their families, and (c) supervised involvement in patient and family education and counseling. Our goal is to enable students to care for patients throughout the BMT experience, from admission to post-BMT follow-up. Feedback elicited from students who have undergone the program was positive. They said that the program helped them overcome their fears and encouraged them to apply for nursing jobs in the unit.

Can Nurses Be Entrepreneurs?

Yes, Nurses can be entrepreneurs. In today s market place nursing has a unique service to offer not only to hospitals but nursing homes, private care and doctor offices. We as nurses have the skill, knowledge and motivation to be successful entrepreneurs. Nurses are tired of being told how much our services are worth. The economy is ripe for the nurse entrepreneur. Why wait? The nursing shortage is just beginning and there doesn t appear to be a quick fix in the near future. Much of the nursi …

Building Performance Trust
You can have outstanding ideas, yet never leverage them into winning at working results. That’s because the secret behind those ideas lies in performance. Yours.

Getting the okay to pursue your idea is directly related to the level of confidence other people have in your ability to deliver it. And if you do, you will create for yourself opportunities on a regular basis. One successful idea delivery leads to another and another and another. Bigger and bigger ideas are entrusted to people w …

Nursing Jobs Information: - Building A Career Of Choice Let’s face it,

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Building A Career Of Choice
Let’s face it, most career choices are not choices at all,
but people held hostage by paychecks. Most of us fall into a job;
followed by a paycheck, and then become immobilized into
taking any pro-active moves toward something we really love doing.
How much sense does this make? We don’t marry on these terms.
We don’t select friends on these terms. But we do spend eight,
ten, twelve hours a day in work we have no passion for and
a future we aren’t particularly interes …

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Patient care will be affected by the spate of nursing job cuts at hospitals across England, according to health union Unison. And the Royal College of Nursing says the threat of redundancy is causing morale among nurses to “plummet”.

More than 3,000 job cuts have been announced by English NHS trusts since the beginning of March.

Filipino doctors become nurses to get higher pay abroad

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Specialist doctors in the Philippines are enrolling in nursing school so they can qualify for nursing jobs abroad that pay many times more than they could earn as doctors in the Philippines, according to the Filipino Forum.

The magazine cited figures from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) that showed 2,908 Filipino nurses left for 21 countries in the first quarter of 2002. In the previous year, 13,536 nurses left for 31 countries.

“The annual outflow of Filipino nurses is now three times the annual production of licensed nurses of 6,500-7,000 per year,” the magazine said.

Overseas, it added, the monthly pay ranged from $3,000-$4,000 compared to the average pay of $169 per month in the Philippines.

Build a Success Team Within Your Job Search

BUILD A SUCCESS TEAM WITHIN
YOUR JOB SEARCH

The concept of a success team is a great
concept devised by Barbara Sher of:
WISHCRAFT book fame.

Here’s how I think a success team can
be a splendid idea in a job search.

1. Gather everyone you know to meet
with you to discuss your plans.

2. Make it a fun gathering. It could be
a coffee time; a dinner out; a potluck.
Ask people to help you decide the time
and place.

3. When you invite …

Nursing Jobs Information: - The nursing jobs you’ve never thought of.

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

The nursing jobs you’ve never thought of.

RN. 1989; 52 Suppl: 28-30

Redundancy in the accident and emergency department.

Accid Emerg Nurs. 1994 Apr; 2(2): 108-9
Durcan T

Whilst this article was being written, the Government announced that the pay of nurses will be based on productivity. The Trade Unions have announced that they have made a claim to the independent pay review body for a payment of 10% as a pay award, but the RCN indicated that up to 50,000 nursing jobs have been lost between 1992 and 1993. This gives an indication that the future is not so bright for nurses. Under this cloud of uncertainty nurses may deduce that there is a clear message that their job is no longer a job for life. Market forces, contracts, targets and flexibility are the jargon of today’s care. Nursing is under threat and attack.
